Dedication of The Food Zeitgeist to Peter Gaioli
Hey there, Tony here with a brief note to dedicate this food blog to my friend Peter Gaioli. Peter passed away in 2005. Peter and I went to high school together and were lifelong friends. Peter, who was blessed with an Italian-born father and Anglo-Australian mother, was a friend who lived life to the full. He had such passion and enthusiasm for the finer things in life – his sense of style and good taste in food and coffee inspired me. It was Peter who first introduced me to Sydney’s Tropicana Cafe in Darlinghurst and their simple, fresh and delicious chicken caesar salads. I believe Tropicana cafe captures the “zeitgeist” of Sydney – you will see people from all walks of life and age groups, coming together in a casual, friendly environment whether just for an espresso, glass of wine, or family dinner.
Peter, I dedicate this blog to you.

Peter was my first true love and I believe you were there the night that we met Tony. I am delighted to see I am not the only one who can never forget. Sam
Tony,
Wow that was so sweet. I miss Peter dearly, there is not a day that goes by where I don’t think about him. I have only been back to our apartment twice since 2005, it is too hard, I have even left the country. Hopefully we can have a coffee at Tropicana one day and reminisce about what an amazing guy he was. Best wishes Alicia.
I am his Spanish cousin! I had the chance to meet him in Sorrento, his father land! It was very nice to get to know a person like him!! I will never forget him and his family!!
His lost has been and it is still a dramma for his parents. Besides I did not have the chance to get to know him better, as much as you… I can imagine, from the few days we past together that he was a person that is hard to forget! Our neighbours, two young girls, in Italy, they still remember him!! They were so young at that time!! MY oyther cousin, Michele, still looks for him on the net, actually, it was him that told me about it.
Well! Thanks for creating this blog for Peter!
A Spanish/Italian hug from a half Barcelonian half Sorretino man.

I am Carl Weir, school chum, and friend to Peter Gaioli. through reinvigorated contacts I only hqard todday of the loss of Peter. Today the world suddenly seems a little colder a little bleaker.
It has been 22 years since I have seen Peter, yet I can still see the night he got his first car and in the streets of darlinghurst managed to hit the bumper of a car in fron causing a domino of the same (3 hours old that car was, I think his license was even newer).
So here is “cheers” to peter your loss is mourned but you won’t be forgotten.

I had not seen Peter since high school. I remember getting a lift to a soccer game from he and his dad. I googled his name out of curiosity, wondering whatever happened to my ex-classmates as I have pondered the trajectory of my own life. It’s sad to hear of his passing.
